The sea

The sea mists

into fog.

Cold beach into fog.

The grayed sun

without a sky.

Settingsun stoked

Settingsun stoked

behind the mountain.

Red-coaled and hot.

The snow pinks

into white, and night.

The Great Salt-Lake

The salt-white flat

only broken by rock—

wide and coned,

stilled in volcanic formation.

No animal, no brush.

No water,

only salt, rock.

No shade,

only salt, rock.

The wind moves freely

and the sun.

White-cut mountain

The white-cut mountain

peaked with snow,

blue-backed with sky

that fades. The black cow

sits, grazing in an open field.

Winter, snow-sloped

The knee-tucked deer

leaps tree-between.

The ground snow-covered

and hooved through.

The grassed cattle

The grassed cattle mountain-sit.

The sun shines bullhorns

and the calf dirt-kicks.

The bird beats

Thick forest.

Rain-groaning wood.

The bird beats

from branch

into cloudshadow.
